Classes for kids

A great introduction to clay, this special session for budding potters aged 9 to 14 helps develop skills in throwing on the potter’s wheel and provides a solid grounding in pottery fundamentals.

Students are taught how to center a mound of clay on the potter’s wheel, and how to throw, trim and glaze their pots. They learn how to make cups, bowls and other simple forms.

To prepare for class, students should dress in clothes they don't mind getting dirty, trim their fingernails short, tie back long hair, and bring an old towel for wiping their hands.

Winter 2018: Two Sunday afternoon sessions for young potters begin on January 7, 2018. The first of these 10-week sessions meets from 12:30 to 3:00 pm and the second from 3:00 to 5:30 pm. The incomparable Karna Robinson, a kid favorite, teaches both classes.

The fee is $400.00. Cost of clay, use of tools and equipment, glazes and firing are included in the fee. Registration for the Winter Session will open in November. Full payment is required at registration.

Hinckley Pottery reserves the right to cancel a session if enrollment does not reach a minimum of five students. Maximum class size is 10. There are no refunds for registrations cancelled less than two weeks before the session begins. There are no refunds for absences. If a session is cancelled because of insufficient enrollment, Hinckley Pottery will make a full refund.
