Hinckley Pottery .::. Classes for Kids

Classes for kids

Open to beginners aged 9 to 14 with no pottery experience as well as to those who have attended prior classes for young potters. Students get solid grounding in pottery fundamentals. They develop skills in throwing on the potter’s wheel as well as a variety of hand-building techniques.

On the wheel, students are taught how to center a mound of clay and later how to throw, trim and glaze their pots. All learn how to make cups, bowls and other simple forms. With handbuilding, they explore making functional and decorative objects.

Students should dress in clothes they don’t mind getting dirty, trim their fingernails short, tie back long hair and bring an old towel for wiping their hands. (Towels are also available for rent at $1.00 each time.)

Fall 2018: These two Sunday afternoon sessions for young potters begin on September 16 and end on November 18. The first of these 10-week sessions meets from 12:30 to 3:00 pm and the second from 3:00 to 5:30 pm. The incomparable Karna Robinson, a kid favorite, teaches both classes.

The fee for each session is $400.00. Cost of clay, use of tools and equipment, glazes and firing are included in the fee. Full payment is required at registration.

Hinckley Pottery reserves the right to cancel a session if enrollment does not reach a minimum of five students. Maximum class size is 10. There are no refunds for registrations cancelled less than two weeks before the session begins. If the session is cancelled, a full refund will be made. There are no refunds for absences.
